Looking forward towards v1.6 and beyond

Hi all!

The support for MacOS is rounding out well, including proper resource file handling which will hopefully smooth the pain of app translocation. I have just edited the old Feature Roadmap post (Here: https://dm-helper.itch.io/dm-helper/devlog/80045/dm-helper-feature-roadmap) and I thought I would take this chance to highlight some of the other, exciting changes coming up and what they will mean.

Usability Enhancements

The team has been debating a lot about how to improve the user interface to make it even easier to do what you want to do in the DM Helper. These changes boil down to a key set which will be developed, released and polished over the next few releases:

  1. Fully Integrated View: from this point on, you will only have two windows, the DM and the Player views (plus for now a dialog for the Bestiary, but integrating that will come too). In particular, this means integrating the scrolling text (done with v1.5) and the battle dialog (v1.6)
  2. In-Battle Map Editing: including FoW, gridlines and everything else
  3. Party & Individual icons: use a single icon for for overland travel or basic exploration and individual icons for battles or detailed exploration
  4. A Flexible Campaign Structure: you will be able to attach encounters to maps, maps to adventures, NPCs to locations or any other combitnation that makes sense for your campaign.
  5. Hideable Menus: to make space, we are looking at making the various menu bars able to fold away, especially the campaign tree.

Audio

The current audio playback capabilities of the DM Helper are quite limited and have a pretty basic prototype quality. To take this to the level of a properly useful feature, we are now looking at two main extensions:

  1. More Sources: expanding the possible sources for both sound effects and music or ambients to include Youtube sources or other 3rd party systems to give you as much flexibility as possible to quickly integrate audio sources into your game.
  2. Sound Board: creating a more comprehensive easy-access soundboard to consolidate those sources and their playback. 1-2 clicks maximum to play audio at the table.

I hope you find this overview as exciting as I do for the coming months and beyond! Let us know what you think!

Happy Gaming!

The two most important items here, at least for me, are the folding windows and the Youtube or internet sources. Brilliant!

I'm still working on the various audio/video streaming sources, that may take a little while yet. The ability to fold away the campaign tree is there now, so it is definitely confirmed for the next release.
